Given the increasing numbers of academically qualified artists, some educated even to PhD level - there now exist Doctors of Art - an Art Surgery based on the idea of a Medical Doctor's Surgery, treating paintings and artefacts as patients, has become a real possibility. The first significant initiative of this type which took place in May 2010 is documented below. Dear Dr. Gilhooly

Thank you for your email. I would be happy to talk to Mr. Carrick about the future of his donated artwork, but only after the person who received it from him (who happens to be the same idiot responsible for its breakage) has taken responsibility and informed him of its present state. I hope I have made my position clear.

I've had contact with Mr. Nicholas Carrick (CC'd above) regarding the fact that a sensitive matter needs to be discussed with him. During this brief conversation I pointed out that naturally the most appropriate person to talk with in these circumstances would be you, Dr. Gilhooly. Would it be possible to make contact with Mr. Carrick at your earliest convenience?
Respectfully yours
